ELINORE, OUR MOM

When a woman is say between 40 years old and maybe 65, we conveniently forget her age. But when a lady has achieved "senior" status, her age becomes a thing of quiet accomplishment. Our "Mom" has been down a long and winding road, but has driven it well and deserves to be honered here on the Web.
Elinore, as she was called in her youth was born at home in Los Angeles on November 5, 1917. She had a wonderful childhood along side her younger sister Marjory.

ELINORE, CHILDHOOD YEARS

Their parents, Frank and Mabel Wright were born in Iowa, and moved here as teenagers, met, and fell in love. Their father was a general contactor and built homes. His busines was wiped out by the Depression of the 1930's, but he continued as a carpenter. He eventually ended up working for the movie studios. (As grandchildren our big thrill was that he worked on the TV series Superman.) As little girls they lived at Ocean Park Beach. Elinore decided she didn't like kindergarden and walk home from school. Her Mom agreed apparently and put her in a private school. But they spent the rest of their school years living in Hollywood. Elinore graduated from Hollywood High School in 1935. She then went to work for Van De Kamps Bakery at one of their stores. This was the Hollywood of 5 cent movies and electric trolly cars. It was an exciting, and yet a safe place to grow up.

THE RAY LIND YEARS

RAY AND ELINORE As the story goes, Elinore, finding this young man Raymond attractive, (even though he came over to the house to get a date with her sister Margie,) seized the momment! They're glamourous (but on a budget) romance flourished. Their buddies were Ray's brother Ralph and his wife to be Marion Titzel (right photo.) Ray and Elinore were married in 1938, she was 21and he was 22. He got a job working for the Gas Company and by 1941, they had their first child, Carl. And in '45, Karen arrived. RAY AND ELINORE

THE VALLEY

In 1947 Ray and Elinore moved to the Valley. That's the San Fernando Valley if you are new to our part of the world. It was being irrigated by "stolen" water from the Owens River, ya know the "Chinatown" movie story. And like the movie the Valley was filled with fruit orchards. This piece of land that they owned was part of an apricot orchard. They grew their own vegies. The cousins would come visit and everyone would eat, drink, and party till the sun would come up! The third child, James showed up in '48, and all seemed well.

And So It Goes...

In 1950, Ray and Elinore decided to head
in different directions. "Speed" (Ray) goes
back to Hollywood and pursues the bar-
tending business. And Elinore evolves into
Frances and with the three children stays
in the Valley. They live in Reseda and Van
Nuys, while she works at Leber Brothers.
